The University of Georgia Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories, located in Athens and Tifton, are full-service laboratories that protect animal health and human well-being by providing fast, accurate, reliable, and affordable diagnostic services for all animal species. The two laboratories are units of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, and are funded in part through a contract with the Georgia Department of Agriculture.

The two laboratories are accredited by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD) using ISO 17025/OIE-based standards. We are also members of the National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN) . Our quality system and our multidisciplinary organization provide the capabilities necessary for the detection of most animal diseases and interpretation of the associated test results. We provide accurate, expeditious and comprehensive diagnostic services to our veterinary clients for all domestic animal species and non-traditional species such as aquarium animals, laboratory animals, marine mammals, and zoo/exotic animal species. Our core diagnostic services include: bacteriology and mycology; biopsy; clinical pathology; cytology; histopathology; immunohistochemistry; molecular diagnostics; necropsy; parasitology; serology; and virology.

We also provide surveillance testing for endemic and non-endemic diseases in cooperation with state and federal agencies, including transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs). Our faculty conducts research on animal diseases, improved diagnostic methods, and other conditions that have an impact on food safety and public health.
