Veterinary Teaching Hospital

Making an Appointment

The University of Georgia Veterinary Teaching Hospital is primarily a referral institution. What this means is that for the majority of our services, you must be referred to us from another veterinary practice before you can make an appointment. This applies in all instances EXCEPT the following:

EMERGENCY SERVICES

Emergencies do not require a referral or an appointment. However, we do ask that you please call ahead to let us know you are on your way so we can be better prepared for your arrival. We will also ask you for contact information for your regular veterinarian, so that we can keep him/her updated on your pet's condition. Our emergency services are available 24-hours a day, 365 days a year.
Cats, dogs, exotics and wildlife emergencies = 706.542.3221
Horses, cattle and farm animal emergencies = 706.542.3223

LARGE ANIMAL SERVICES

For all large animal services, a referral from your regular veterinarian is preferred, but not required. This includes services for horses, cattle, donkeys, alpaca, goats, pigs and other farm animals. To make an appointment with our large animal hospital, call 706.542.3223.

EXOTIC PETS

Clients with exotic pets (such as reptiles, birds, ferrets, rabbits, fish, etc) may be seen without an official referral. Please see our Exotic Pets policy for more details. To make an appointment with this service, please call 706.542.3221.

DERMATOLOGY

For our dermatology service, a referral from your regular veterinarian is preferred, but not required. To make an appointment with this service, please call 706.542.3221.

ALL OTHER SERVICES

To make an appointment with any service not listed above, you must first have a referral from a veterinarian. Once your veterinarian calls in the referral, we will generate a pre-admission (PA) number and a cost estimate. When you receive the PA number from your regular vet, please write it down and then call 706.542.3221 to schedule your appointment. You cannot schedule an appointment without this PA number.
