INTRODUCTION

There are several types of glomerular damage and the classification and nomenclature can be very confusing. We will take a simplistic approach that will emphasize the most important glomerular lesions in animals.

The termonology for  types of glomerular lesions that you will be responsible for include:

Glomerulopathy
Glomerulonephritis
Exudative glomerulitis
Membranous glomerulonephritis
Proliferative glomerulonephritis
Membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis
Glomerulosclerosis
Amyloidosis

Causes of glomerular lesions include: immune complex disease, amyloidosis, acute viral glomerulitis, and embolic bacterial glomerulitis.

The consequences of glomerular disease include: protein losing nephropathy, nephrotic syndrome, renal failure, and  procoagulant states.
