Job Description

The Department of Veterinary Pathology, College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), University of Georgia (UGA) is seeking applicants for a 3-year post-DVM non-degree residency position in veterinary anatomic pathology. The position is open until filled.  The incoming resident will spend the first two semesters in the Department of Pathology, CVM, UGA in Athens Georgia learning basic anatomic pathology skills and will participate in formal courses focusing on histopathology and general/systemic pathology.  The resident will spend the remainder of her/his residency training at the Tifton Veterinary Diagnostic and Investigational Laboratory (TVDIL) in Tifton, Georgia.  At the TVDIL the resident will receive training from three board-certified pathologists and will participate in the TVDIL’s routine necropsy and biopsy services.  In addition to the training received at the TVDIL, the resident will have the opportunity to participate in the UGA CVM formal anatomic pathology training program through on-line, videoconferencing, and on-site experiences.  Participation in seminars, presentations at national meetings, and manuscript publication are also expected of the resident. The TVDIL is a full service, AAVLD accredited, NAHLN level 2 laboratory with histopathology, clinical pathology, necropsy, virology/serology, microbiology, and molecular biology sections. This position is ideal for candidates seeking pathology training in a diagnostic laboratory setting in a rural area. Successful completion of this program will prepare the trainee for certifying examination by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists.  The starting salary is $31,364.00 per year plus tuition support and travel support to regional and national meetings, including training courses.  Applicants must possess a DVM or equivalent degree, must be United States citizens or be eligible for lawful admission to the United States, and must provide evidence of academic strength and interest in anatomic pathology.  Top candidates may be asked to participate in phone and/or in-person interviews, although any interested applicant is welcome to visit.
