Julie M. Moore, PhD, has been appointed an associate vice president for research and has joined the senior leadership team in the University of Georgia’s Office of the Vice President for Research, effective July 7.
Dr. Moore will take on various roles in OVPR, including helping to promote interdisciplinary research at UGA and working closely with the Office of International Education (OIE) to encourage UGA’s involvement in global research, said Dr. David Lee, UGA’s vice president for research, in a statement.
“Her obvious commitment to research, scholarship and training will be a strong asset to OVPR, and her presence will help to ensure that service to faculty remains foremost in our minds,” said Dr. Lee.
Dr. Moore, who joined UGA in 1999, will also continue in her role as a professor of infectious diseases within the CVM’s Department of Infectious Diseases. In addition to her faculty appointment in the College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Moore is a member of the Center for Tropical and Emerging Global Diseases. Her research, supported by the National Institutes of Health, aims to better understand the role of host-parasite interactions in malaria, particularly during pregnancy, and it spans field to laboratory studies. She is also committed to training the next generation of scientists and serves as principal investigator and director of the NIH-funded Post-Baccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP@UGA), a research experience-based initiative that helps prepare students from underrepresented backgrounds for successful application to top PhD, DVM/PhD and MD/PhD programs. Dr. Moore has also served her department as assistant department head and as curriculum coordinator.
