Personnel changes to Office of Research and Graduate and Faculty Affairs

The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is pleased to announce reorganization and additions to the Office of Research and Faculty and Graduate Affairs, including the newly appointed assistant dean of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Dr. Susan M. Williams has been appointed interim assistant dean of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Williams is charged with developing and implementing a plan for equity, diversity, and inclusion at the College level, including expanding initiatives and opportunities for community education. In coordination with the Office of the Dean and Office of Academic Affairs’ coordinator of diversity initiatives, she will serve as a source of coordination and communication for diversity, equity, and inclusion at the CVM. Williams received her DVM from Tuskegee University and PhD in Veterinary Pathology from Michigan State University. She has been on the CVM faculty at UGA for 18 years in the Department of Population Health. “Dr. Williams is a true leader in her field and has an excellent vision for what the future of diversity, equity, and inclusion should be at the College,” said Dean Lisa Nolan.

Dr. Catherine Logue has been appointed as the assistant dean for faculty affairs and advancement, beginning October 1, 2020. Dr. Logue will be responsible for coordinating faculty development and advancement and serving as liaison with department heads, campus constituents, and stakeholders of the university. She received her PhD from University of Ulster in Food Microbiology. She has been on the CVM faculty at UGA for three years in the Department of Population Health. Previously, Logue served as director for faculty and staff advancement and equity in the CVM at Iowa State University where she was a Fellow of the Emerging Leaders Academy. She is an accomplished researcher with 106 peer-reviewed publications and over 13 published chapters and books. “Dr. Logue has a proven record of accomplishment in faculty development from her time at Iowa State,” said Associate Dean Sharron Quisenberry. “I look forward to her work enhancing our faculty capabilities at the College.”

Dr. Robert Gogal has been appointed director of the Georgia Veterinary Scholars Program (GVSP), replacing Jennifer Smith-Garvin. The GVSP program is a 12-week immersive summer research program for rising second- and third-year veterinary students designed to provide students with a current and comprehensive biomedical research experience, to enhance awareness of the importance of research in veterinary medicine, and to encourage veterinary students to enter a career in research. Dr. Gogal will also coordinate the Steeve Giguère Science of Veterinary Medicine Symposium, a day-long event that displays the breadth of research being conducted at the College.Dr. Gogal has been on the CVM faculty at UGA for 11 years in the Department of Veterinary Biosciences and Diagnostic Imaging. He received his DVM in 1992 from Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech and has served as PI or Co-PI on multiple NIH and Department of Defense awards with total budgets of several million dollars and has published over 100 associated peer-reviewed manuscripts. “Dr. Gogal has built a career around his dedication to students, instruction, and research,” explains Associate Dean Quisenberry. “He will bring the same level of excellence to this role.”
