Tours

Do you want a tour of our College?

Tours of the College of Veterinary Medicine building for prospective students are held monthly on select Fridays throughout the year. Please complete the following form at least one week in advance to request a tour:

High School Juniors or Seniors Prospective Student

College Age Prospective Student

All tours start promptly at 12 p.m. (noon) from the Office for Academic Affairs, room 220, located in the Administrative Building of the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine. There is an optional presentation from a member of our Admissions Office immediately following the tour. The presentation lasts about an hour, and will go over our program and admissions requirements, as well as answer any questions that you may have.

PLEASE NOTE: Your tour appointment is not scheduled/confirmed until you receive an email confirmation from the Office for Academic Affairs. This is important, as the CVM is a secure-access facility, therefore self-guided tours are not allowed and we are unable to accommodate walk-in requests. If you arrive more than 10 minutes late for your scheduled tour we will have to reschedule, as we have limited number of people available to provide tours. Please plan ahead the time it takes to park and walk over to the CVM.

Other Tour Requests:

Tours of our Veterinary Teaching Hospital are available to members of the general public during the College’s annual open house, which typically takes place in late March or early April. Please visit the Open House website for more information.

Elementary, Middle or High School Freshmen/Sophomore students:

The College's Annual Open House is held annually in late March or early April. Please visit the Open House website for more information. This is a great opportunity for individuals not yet ready to apply to veterinary college to visit the facilities, tour our new hospital (16 years or older), and view live demonstrations. Open House is fun for all ages and free to attend – no reservations required!

Tour Restrictions

The College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital is an active, working hospital and our patients are our top priority. Like patients in a human hospital, our patients are here because they need medical attention. Because of this the tour is not a hands-on experience. We are happy to provide tours for prospective students i.e. high school juniors and seniors; undergraduate, and post-graduate. Tours are not available for high school sophomore-age students or younger. We recommend those students visit the college during our annual Open House to get an idea about what veterinarians do.

High school sophomore-age or younger are encouraged to visit the following:

Due to biosecurity, liability, patient confidentiality, and operational issues associated with operating a full service hospital the following limitations are imperative and enforced at all times:

  • Group size is limited per tour
  • No photos or video are allowed to be taken in the hospital
  • Visitors must be accompanied by a tour guide at all times while in the hospital
  • Visitors are not  allowed to touch the patients under any circumstances
  • Shouting, running, yelling, and disorderly conduct are prohibited

We reserve the right to exclude someone from a tour at any time.

Cancellations

If you cannot attend your scheduled tour please email us as soon as possible (preferably 24 hours in advance) to reschedule.

If you arrive more than 10 minutes late for your scheduled tour we will have to reschedule. As we have limited number of people available to provide tours. Please plan ahead the time it takes to park and walk over to the CVM.

Parking

We strongly encourage carpooling, as parking on campus can be difficult at times. Visitor parking is available for a fee in the Carlton Street Parking Deck.

Visit our directions page for directions to the CVM and a map.

If the Carlton Street Deck is full when you arrive, visitor parking is also available in the South Campus Parking Deck. Visit UGA's Parking Services website for more information about visitor parking regulations on UGA's campus.

Once you have parked in the Carlton Street Deck, walk around the Coverdell Center and cross the street. Enter the College of Veterinary Medicine through the columned entrance. Take the first left, and the Office for Academic Affairs is located on the left (room 220).
