About Daniel Mead

Dr. Daniel Mead is a professor in the Department of Population Health, College of Veterinary Medicine and he is the Science Director at the Animal Health Research Center.  The central theme of Dr. Mead’s research is to gain a better understanding of the interrelationships and natural history of wildlife, domestic animal, and human pathogens. To this end, for the last 20+ years his research has focused on the transmission dynamics of vector-borne pathogens, the ecology of pathogens affecting domestic animals, wildlife, and humans, and developing animal models to study high consequence pathogens. In his role as Science Director of the AHRC, Dr. Mead helps investigators and collaborators navigate through the paperwork associated with high containment research, assists with study design and implementation, and helps train faculty, staff, and students to work in the high security/high containment environment.
