Five years ago, renowned UGA CVM large animal clinician and beloved friend, Dr. Steeve Giguère, passed away unexpectedly at only 48 years old. Through shared heartbreak, the CVM community came together to create a fund in his memory. Thanks to you, we far exceeded all expectations and were able to create the Dr. Steeve Giguère Memorial Professorship in Large Animal Medicine. This professorship embodies Dr. Giguère’s lifelong passion and dedication to equine medicine and, in 2022, was awarded to Dr. John Peroni, esteemed large animal clinician and dear friend of Dr. Giguère.
“Knowing Dr. Giguère’s passion for research tells me he would be terrifically pleased by the Professorship in his name and that it had been awarded to such a great scholar, as Dr. Peroni. You see, professorships allow faculty to go where their creativity takes them and gives flight to their ideas. What a great way to honor Steeve’s memory.”
– Dean Lisa K. Nolan, DVM ’88, MS ’89, PhD ’92
“I am still adjusting to the idea that colleagues in my unit selected me to receive the Dr. Steeve Giguère Memorial Professorship. This has been a very humbling experience for a number of reasons. First and foremost, Dr. Giguère was a colleague and friend, therefore receiving this endowment in his name has been humbling. Your support has allowed me to plan and graduate students to my laboratory. It has also provided me with the ability to design a research strategy built around the knowledge that recurring funds would be available. My future goals include growing the endowment by continuing to leverage the memory of Dr. Giguère and making sure that we perform quality research work that he would be proud of.”
