Tickets for family and friends of graduates will be in the student’s regalia packet. \nSeating\nSeating for guests of graduates will be available on a first come\, first served basis. Doors to the Coliseum will open at 9:15 a.m. for guests to begin seating themselves. \nParking\nParking on campus is free on weekend days. Suggested lots are Carlton Street Deck (S15)\, South Campus Deck (S11)\, or Foley Field Lot (S14). DESCRIPTION:Inaugural College of Veterinary Medicine Butler Lecture\nUniversity of Georgia Center for Continuing Education and Hotel\, Masters Hall\nHeart of the Matter: Randomized Clinical Trials and Evidence-Based Cardiovascular Medicine\nFaiez Zannad\nProfessor of Therapeutics and Cardiology\nUniversity of Lorraine\, FR\nProfessor Faiez Zannad\, MD\, PhD\, Cardiologist\, Clinical Pharmacologist\, Emeritus Professor of therapeutics at Université de Lorraine (France) received the Eugene Braunwald scholarship at Harvard Medical School\, the HFA Lifetime Achievement Award\, and the 2022 Heart Failure society of Americas international Honorary Fellowship Award. Professor Zannad contributed to generating most of the evidence behind the foundational medical therapies in heart failure and its co-morbidities (sleep apnea\, diabetes\, hyperkalemia\, kidney disease). He is a highly cited researcher (h-index: 151) who has significantly contributed to building evidence supporting modern drug therapy for heart failure\, including mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists\, beta-blockers\, and SGLT2inhibitors. He recently led two important European Union granted research programs on omics biomarkers and fibrosis as a biological target. \nProfessor Zannad served as Chairman of the French Society of Hypertension and of the Working Group on Pharmacology and Drug Therapy of the European Society of Cardiology. He is also leading mechanic deciphering of cardiovascular disease using a biomarker approach (omics and fibrosis). We will update this website the day before with changes if rain occurs so\, please check back in the day before coming! Also\, follow our social media accounts for live updates! \n\nCost of event\nThis event is free and includes many events and exhibits on the CVM Classic Campus! These activities range from tours of the veterinary hospital to zoo and exotic animal displays! Donations at various activities can provide additional experiences\, but all events will have free options. Dr. Hillyer earned his MS and PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and completed his post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Minnesota. He teaches several undergraduate and graduate level courses in biology. His research work focuses on understanding the biology of pathogens in a variety of mosquito cells in the hopes of developing novel pest and disease control strategies.

She earned her PhD in neuroscience at the University of Pennsylvania and completed her post-doctoral fellowship at Princeton University. Dr. Mor’s research focuses on Parkinson’s disease and using high-resolution imaging and RNA-sequencing approaches to identify factors that lead to regulation of a-synuclein prion-like spreading.

SAVMA’s goal is to enhance student learning while enabling the College of Veterinary Medicine to better serve the Athens community.  SAVMA also funds all of the student clubs within the college\, such as the Canine Club and the student chapter of the American Association of Equine Practitioners.  Additionally\, SAVMA sponsors seminars\, speakers\, conferences\, and learning opportunities that enable students to enhance their education outside of the classroom. SAVMA also provides annual scholarships for outstanding veterinary students\, funds student veterinary projects that serve the Athens community\, and gives thousands of dollars each year to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of the University of Georgia. \nOn February 3\, 2024 SAVMA will hold its largest fundraiser\, the annual auction at the UGA Veterinary Teaching Hospital. DESCRIPTION:We have reached capacity for the Shelter Medicine Symposium. Registration is now closed.\nMark your calendars for the 16th annual UGA CVM Shelter Medicine Symposium happening on January 27th\, 2024! This one day event will feature speakers from multiple areas of shelter medicine. This year’s Symposium is free to attend\, and all registrants will have breakfast and lunch provided. If you would like to receive a certificate for 7 hours CE credit\, please choose that option when registering. The cost for the CE credit is $70. Partial hours of CE credit will not be offered. Current topics include mental health in shelter animals\, FeLV testing guidelines\, and reducing length of stay. The Symposium will take place at the UGA Veterinary Teaching Hospital located in Athens\, GA. A registration link for Symposium will come out soon! \nFor catering purposes\, we ask that you complete the registration so we can have an accurate count of attendees. He earned his PhD in immunology at Cornell University. Dr. Beiting works in the Center for Host-Microbial Interactions\, which focuses on research through the One Health perspective. His lab leads the MicrobiomeDB project and develops tools and methods to analyze and visualize complex datasets.

He earned his MS in epidemiology and DVM at Colorado State University. Dr. Lombard recently received the 2023 Veterinary Services’ Innovation Award for managing bovine Tuberculosis affect herds. He previously worked for USDA in Colorado.

DESCRIPTION:The Outpatient Medicine Section at the University of Georgia is comprised of services in which the majority of our patients are treated on an outpatient basis. \nJoin us VIRTUALLY December 9-10 to hear some great updates on the diagnosis and management of diseases in small animal and exotic patients from UGA clinicians. You will hear lectures from the specialties of Cardiology\, Dermatology\, Exotics\, Medical Oncology\, Nutrition & guest speakers from our Pet Health Center. \nWe hope that the virtual format will allow you to obtain some high level CE during this busy time of year. \nThe ZOOM link and conference notes will be sent to registered participants a few days prior to the event. She earned her PhD in microbiology and molecular biology at the University of Nottingham and DVM and master’s degree at the Federal University of Santa Maria. Dr. Maboni is board certified in virology and bacteriology/mycology and completed her residency in veterinary clinical microbiology at UGA. Her work focuses on bacterial and viral infections in chickens and performing avian microbiology diagnostic services.
