Currently\, she is the Ophthalmology technician at Auburn University’s Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital and pursuing her VTS in Ophthalmology. DESCRIPTION:Management of Common Surgical Emergencies in Small Animal Practice\nRegistration is currently active. Registration closes August 8\, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. or until capacity has been reached. We will update this website the day before with changes if rain occurs so\, please check back in the day before coming! Also\, follow our social media accounts for live updates! \n\nCost of event\nThis event is free and includes many events and exhibits on the CVM Classic Campus! These activities range from tours of the veterinary hospital to zoo and exotic animal displays! Donations at various activities can provide additional experiences\, but all events will have free options. With the assistance of one of own veterinary medicine students\, you will be able to visualize organs and other structures on some of our student’s dogs! \nZoo and Exotics Display\nInteract with and learn about many different interesting species of animals. \nTeddy Bear Surgery\nTeddy Bear Surgery is a hands-on experience that allows children to be “anesthesiologists” and “surgeons.” They get to participate in a physical exam for their bear and then gown up in surgical gear to “anesthetize” a teddy bear. Once “sterile\,” children watch second year students suture their bears’ “wounds” closed while holding the mask to keep their animal “anesthetized”. \n** Registration for this event is first-come\, first-served. Registration is free and will be at the welcome desks on the CVM front lawn and near the animal demonstrations. DESCRIPTION:This event is part of the department’s seminar series for graduate students. \n“Harnessing the Ghosts of Influenza Past to Combat Future Influenza Variants and Pandemics” \nDr. Jenna Guthmiller is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Immunology & Microbiology at the University of Colorado’s Anschutz School of Medicine. She earned her PhD in Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Oklahoma in 2017 and completed her postdoctoral work at the University of Chicago. Dr. Guthmiller’s research focuses on the co-evolution of influenza viruses and the humoral immune response. Additionally\, Dr. Guthmiller has received grants from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease and works with CEIRS and CIVIC through NIAID.

DESCRIPTION:This event is part of the department’s seminar series for graduate students. \n“Reprogramming the Pancreatic Tumor Microenvironment to Effectively Treat Cancer Patients: Knowledge gained from a bench-to-bedside-to-bench multidisciplinary Phase II Clinical Trial” \nDr. Yana Zavros is a Professor and GRA Eminent Scholar in the Department of Interdisciplinary Biomedical Sciences at the University of Georgia’s School of Medicine and the Director of School of Medicine Research Center. She earned her PhD from the University of Melbourne in 1998. Her research focuses on gastric and pancreatic cancer. Dr. Zavros was awarded the 2023 Women in Medicine and Science Torchbearer and recently received $14 million in NIH grants.

DESCRIPTION:*Registration closes Wednesday\, March 5\, 2025*\nAs part of our continued effort to promote the application of reproductive technologies\, the University of Georgia Extension and College of Veterinary Medicine are collaborating with E.I. Medical Imaging to provide a training course in bovine ultrasonography. \nThis 2-day course for veterinarians is divided into in-class lectures and hands-on training. SUMMARY:61st Annual Veterinary Conference & Alumni Weekend
DESCRIPTION:**Registration closes February 23 @ 11:59 p.m.**\nThe 2025 Annual Conference has been set up a bit differently than previous years. Since veterinarians in Georgia only need 2 LEAP credits per renewal cycle\, and this is the first year in that two-year renewal calendar\, we are not offering any LEAP course credits this year. LEAP credits will be provided during the 2026 Annual Conference. \nThere are always requests for both large animal and small animal courses. However\, previous attendance for the split tracks has caused us to re-evaluate this offering. This year will offer combined lectures. \nScheduling multiple events within a two-day period does present challenges. Due to some of those scheduling challenges\, the total number of hours for this conference will only be 11.5 hours of CE credit. \nFinally\, based on feedback received throughout the year\, we are offering a lab component this year. There is a Clinical Skills Wet Lab registration option. The fee is $100 for the lab. There is a limit of 20 registrants per session\, with two sessions offered on Saturday morning. Both sessions will cover the same information. The topic is\, “Feed Me! Assisted Feeding in Critical Care Patients and Tube Feeding” for the Clinical Skills lecture segments on Friday afternoon. The wet lab on Saturday will focus on orogastric tube\, nasoesophaeal tube\, nasogastric tube\, esophagostomy tube; Why do we use each tube?
