DESCRIPTION:This event is part of the department’s seminar series for graduate students. \n“Roles of bacterial symbionts in the physiology of the Chagas disease vector Rhodnius prolixus” \nDr. Kevin Vogel is an Assistant Professor at the University of Georgia\, College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences\, Department of Entomology. He earned his PhD in ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of Arizona and completed his post-doc at UGA. Dr. Vogel’s research involves the physiology of insect vectors with current experiments specifically focusing on mosquitoes.

DESCRIPTION:This event is part of the department’s seminar series for graduate students. \n“Worming a Way into One Health” \nDr. Christopher Cleveland is an Assistant Professor at the University of Georgia\, College of Veterinary Medicine\, Department of Population Health\, the Southeastern Cooperative Wildlife Disease Study. His work focuses on parasite life-cycles using field collections and classical parasitological and modern molecular techniques. Dr. Cleveland has collaborated with the Carter Center and the Guinea Worm Eradication Program in Chad and Ethiopia\, Africa on Guinea worm eradication efforts in wildlife and domestic animals. He earned his PhD in wildlife ecology and management with a focus on parasitology and a master’s degree in veterinary and biomedical sciences from UGA.

DESCRIPTION:This event is part of the department’s seminar series for graduate students. \n“Natural immunity to liver-stage malaria” \nDr. Samarchith Kurup is an Assistant Professor at the University of Georgia\, Franklin College of Arts and Sciences\, Department of Cellular Biology\, Center for Tropical and Emerging Global Diseases. He earned his PhD in cellular biology at UGA\, DVM from the Kerala Agricultural University\, and master’s degree in parasitology from the Indian Veterinary Research Institute. During his post-doctoral work\, his research focused in on immune responses in malaria. Currently\, his lab is working on understanding Plasmodium parasites in both the liver and the blood.
