Who We Are

As part of the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), the Pet Health Center is dedicated to serving our community while advancing the field of veterinary medicine. Conveniently located on UGA’s South campus, our team of dedicated veterinary professionals provides a wide range of services – including annual wellness exams, vaccinations, dentistry, routine surgeries, and more.

The Pet Health Center is designed to function like a typical veterinary clinic—offering full-service care with transparent, competitive pricing. As we’re part of the College of Veterinary Medicine, your visit will include interactions with veterinary students who are gaining hands-on experience, but rest assured: all care is overseen by experienced, licensed veterinarians. Through our Spectrum of Care approach, we work with you to find treatment options that fit your pet’s medical needs and your family’s circumstances—so you can feel confident your pet is receiving high-quality, compassionate care tailored to your situation.

What is Spectrum of Care?

We know your animal companion is one-of-a-kind. At the UGA Pet Health Center, we offer personalized care options tailored to you and your pet’s individual needs as part of our Spectrum of Care Initiative. The philosophy of Spectrum of Care is to provide a judgement-free approach to veterinary care, where the client’s cultural, physical and socioeconomic circumstances are considered in addition to the patient’s medical needs. This initiative helps us train our students to meet our clients where they are at and to truly partner with them to achieve the best possible outcome for their pets.

Thanks to a $5.2 million grant from the Stanton Foundation, the UGA Pet Health Center was able to almost double in size and add new features such as observational exam rooms and an expanded dentistry suite. Construction is currently underway and once completed, the new facility will expand our capacity for care and allow us to better serve our community.

Who cares for my pet?

Dr. Sara Gonzalez supervising canine physical exam with vet studentAt the Pet Health Center, we take a team-based approach to your pet’s care. Each patient is supported by a skilled group that includes a licensed, experienced veterinarian; a senior veterinary student who often serves as your main point of contact; and our highly trained veterinary nurses and support staff. This collaborative model not only ensures thorough, attentive care but also helps train the next generation of veterinary professionals.

  • Faculty clinicians – Our faculty members are all licensed veterinarians with extensive experience. They oversee the care of every animal that comes into our clinic and work closely with our students and technicians to ensure your animal is receiving the best care possible.
  • Veterinary students – Senior veterinary students will serve as the main point of contact during your visit. These students have completed four years of undergraduate education, followed by three years of veterinary school, and are in the final, one-year clinical rotation of their degree program. To help them gain a broad range of experience, our students rotate every three weeks between the Pet Health Center and other services at the UGA Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH).
  • Veterinary technicians – Our veterinary technicians are licensed medical professionals with specialized training in veterinary technology. Comparable to nurses in human medicine, they play a critical role in delivering complex medical treatments, monitoring anesthesia, performing diagnostic testing, and assisting in surgeries.
  • Veterinary assistants – Veterinary assistants are animal care professionals who assist our doctors and technicians in providing medical care to your pet. They are essential in providing medical care for your pet.
