Examination of the morphology of erythrocytes on Wright's stained blood smear should be part of any differential leukocyte count.
  • To determine if an anemia is regenerative (is polychromasia present?)
  • To gain a clue as to the mechanism of an anemia, particularly hemolytic and iron-lack anemias
