Best Friends Animal Hospital is an independently owned, female driven hospital in the heart of the San Fernando Valley. We have four full time doctors as well as regular relief to bring us to about five full time equivalents. Our last beloved doctor moved east to be with family. Our other doctors have been with us 10 years (me, and most recently as an owner), 8 years (and now our Medical Director), 3 years (straight from veterinary school and now a well-respected colleague), and one year (an experienced UK veterinarian who happens to be our first male doctor.) We really need five or more doctors to be fully staffed. We are fully booked every day as well as weeks out in the pandemic.
We are consistently a favorite on online forums and neighborhood websites. We practice comprehensive medicine and surgery with a lot of client communication and education.Our front staff of CSR’s and technical staff rarely turn over, so our clients are used to familiar faces. The practice itself has a culture that feels more like family, minus yelling and drama. This is built and cared for by our practice manager, who has been at Best Friends for over 20 years. The management in place works at every level to make the entire staff feel supported. When we’re not at work, you may find us at group barbecues, karaoke, or movies.
We are looking for someone with great communication skills, a strong work ethic, and a readiness to grow as a doctor. A new graduate would shadow our doctors for appointments as well as surgeries. We are not in a rush to get you seeing cases, rather we want you to grow and learn until you feel comfortable, and we’d allow ample time for you when you do start taking on your own patients. Mentoring is built into our daily practice – chart reviews, scheduled solo time with our medical director, as well as with the doctor who does our more complex ultrasounds (and is residency trained in internal medicine), as well as frequent case discussion and collaboration. We are fully equipped with in-house IDEXX lab equipment, ultrasound, digital radiography as well as a dental suite with digital dental radiography (and an accomplished veterinary dental technician!)
