Located south of downtown Atlanta, Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary is home to almost 1,000 exotic and farm animals. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to provide a forever home for injured, abused neglected and abandoned animals. We are home to bears, exotic cats, foxes, livestock, primates, small mammals and reptiles. We are looking for an Attending Veterinarian to provide regular preventative care, monitor the general health of our diverse group of animals, and provide medical intervention when needed.

JOB SUMMARY
Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary is committed to creating a better life for animals that need a forever home. Our Staff, Board and Volunteers work together to ensure that animal care and welfare standards are upheld and continuously improved upon according to policies and procedures, and standards set by regulatory agencies.

We are looking ahead at defining a capital campaign, focusing on infrastructure improvements, revitalization of some of the oldest animal habitats and expanding our ability to house and care for exotic animals that need our help.
We have an on-site medical and surgical facility. We are interested in exploring partnerships with veterinarian schools to provide professional learning opportunities and additional care for our animals.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain a regular preventive medicine program for the animals at our Sanctuary including, routine exams, vaccinations, diagnostic imaging, fecal parasite exams, zoonotic disease control, and post-mortem exams.

Monitor general health and well-being of the collection and work with the team to improve the preventative health care protocols.

Perform diagnostic testing and provide medical and surgical treatment for sick or injured animals including tranquilization or sedation of animals for medical treatments and other laboratory testing as needed. We have an on-site procedure facility.
Help ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations and accreditation guidelines relating to animal care, and husbandry including USDA and the Department of Natural Resources.
Provide guidance on husbandry issues including housing, diets, etc.
Conduct regularly scheduled visits to assess all aspects of animal care.

Maintain accurate and thorough computerized medical records using Tracks.

Administer and instruct other staff members in the administration of medication to animals.

As needed, supervise the handling and restraint of animals requiring examination, treatment, or hospitalization.

Perform postmortem exams.

Cultivate and promote partnerships with other veterinarian specialists.

Identify partnerships with other veterinarians who can be on-call for emergency care of animals on site.

QUALIFICATIONS
Must have and maintain excellent surgical and medical skills, including experience with general anesthesia in a broad range of taxa.

Graduation from an AVMA-accredited school of veterinary medicine required.

ACZM Board Certification or Board eligibility is preferred.

Must be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Georgia.
