Vietnamese Pot-Bellied Pig
Owned by Mikki Fincher
Aiken, SC

Let me start by saying that my dear potbelly pig was bottle fed from 5 days old because her momma died from complications after birth, so she is very much like my child.

While napping on the couch with me one day, she fell off and broke her leg. I loaded her in the car and made the drive to the UGA Veterinary Teaching Hospital. After x-rays, the hospital clinicians confirmed the break and informed me that BB needed surgery. After about a week, I was able to take her home. At home, she was put on bed rest and watched very closely.

Soon after, she started to have problems with her other front leg, which had previously had a bad abscess. So, I loaded her up again and headed to UGA. They looked her over and, after much consideration, said that the leg would have to be amputated. The surgery went very well and BB did great.

The staff and students at UGA are her angels and I love each and every one of them because every person there let me be the crazy pig momma. I felt so loved by all of them. BB is fine and goes down ramps and up stairs like having one front leg is normal. This is my smart amazing baby, thanks to UGA!
