Patient Success Story: Winston

When you saved Winston’s life, you saved a member of our family. You saved a “brother” to my two children. You saved a piece of my heart.
Winston fell sick very suddenly on December 13. Winston spent several nights at a specialty clinic in Tennessee as he underwent various testing and fluid taps. In the end, it was determined he had a Chylous Effusion, and the cause of it was unknown. The clinic he was at was unable to perform the surgery needed due to the rarity of the case. They reached out to several universities and quickly determined that UGA was our best chance for saving Winston’s life.
Winston was immediately seen by the UGA VTH staff. Upon arrival, I was impressed with the facility and even more impressed with the medical team. Leaving Winston at UGA was hard, but I knew he was in great hands, which gave me a huge sense of relief.
Winston had surgery on January 4. The medical team felt good about the procedure and their work, and I did too. Winston is still doing well today, and he has had no fluid return. Our family strongly believes in the power of prayer, but I know that the expertise of the UGA medical team made this possible. Now, we are looking forward to many happy and healthy years with Winston.
We are forever thankful to the UGA Veterinary Teaching Hospital and the entire medical team that saved his life.
