Annual Open House—Friday, April 6, 2018
About Our Open House
Our annual Open House will be held Friday, April 6, rain or shine, on the CVM's main campus.
This fun event demonstrates the exciting and rewarding aspects of a career in veterinary medicine. There will be many demonstrations and exhibits about animals and/or highlighting the diverse career choices from which graduates in veterinary medicine may choose. The event is held on the main UGA CVM campus, located at 501 D.W. Brooks Drive (near the intersection with Carlton Street). No registration is required to attend Open House. The event starts at 9a and ends at 4p.
The event includes guided tours of the new UGA Veterinary Teaching Hospital facilities (which opened on March 25, 2015) throughout the day. Please note that we have limited space available on these tours. Only attendees who sign-up for tours on the day of Open House, and, who are escorted and shuttled to the new Hospital will be given a tour. Only students in the sixth grade or older are eligible to tour the Hospital. The tour sign-up area will be located in the student lobby of the main CVM building on the main campus. Please note: Tours of the new Veterinary Hospital will occur every 15 minutes beginning at 9a; the last tour group will leave the main CVM at 2:30p. We are taking a limited number of reservations for the tours prior to the day of Open House. If you have a large group needing a tour or you are coming from far away and are only able to take a tour at a specific time, please contact us.
Other interesting exhibits for Open House focus on topics such as the life of a veterinary student, computers in veterinary medicine, animal behavior, equine reproduction, herd health and others.
Admission to the Open House is FREE and the public is invited. Concessions are available at a nominal cost and cash is suggested for these items. Please pass along this information to individuals or groups in your community or school who might be interested in learning more about the rapidly changing and scientifically challenging world of veterinary medicine.
Limited parking will be available at the softball complex on Milledge Avenue with shuttles running to the college throughout the day. If you park there, you must have your car out of the complex by 4 pm to accomodate another scheduled event. Carpooling is encouraged for all visitors. Local residents are encouraged to take public transportation to campus.
