The AHRC, a 75,000 square-foot facility, is comprised of BSL-2 labs, ABSL-2 spaces, BSL-3 labs, ABSL-3/BSL-3Ag vivarium. Each lab is available for reservation by UGA and outside researchers.
BSL-3 Labs
- Four labs with each having 170 square feet of research space
- One lab with 350 square feet of research space
- Each lab includes:
- One+ Class 2, A2 biosafety cabinet
- A tabletop centrifuge
- -20 and/or -80 freezer
- CO2 incubators
- Orbital shaker
- Portable sink
- All five labs share a 400-square-foot common prep area with a common usage pass through sterilizer
ABSL-3
- Six rooms with 300 square feet each of animal research space with an automatic watering system and temperature and humidity controls. Use of these rooms includes the following:
- Required clothing for use inside biocontainment areas including personal protective equipment (PPE)
- use of common biocontainment areas, such as showers and lockers
- Waste management services, including: tissue digester, effluent decontamination, incineration, sharps disposal, autoclave waste disposal
- Liquid disinfection and sterilization utilizing VHP with biomonitors
- Complete animal care services
ABSL-3Ag
- BSL-3Ag – Large Rooms
- Six rooms with 250 square feet each of animal research space with temperature and humidity controls
- Each room includes an ante-room and Inner- and outer-changing rooms
- Use of these rooms includes the following:
- Required clothing for use inside biocontainment areas including personal protective equipment (PPE)
- use of common biocontainment areas, such as showers and lockers
- Waste management services, including: tissue digester, effluent decontamination, incineration, sharps disposal, autoclave waste disposal
- Liquid disinfection and sterilization utilizing VHP with biomonitors
- Complete animal care services
- BSL-3Ag – Extra Large rooms
- Two rooms with 670 square feet each of animal research space with temperature and humidity controls.
- Each room includes an ante-room and Inner- and outer-changing rooms
- Use of these rooms includes the following:
- Required clothing for use inside biocontainment areas including personal protective equipment (PPE)
- use of common biocontainment areas, such as showers and lockers
- Waste management services, including: tissue digester, effluent decontamination, incineration, sharps disposal, autoclave waste disposal
