Checking Everything From Nose to Tail

Just like humans, pets benefit from regular checkups to help ensure they remain happy and healthy. Annual wellness exams are a critical part of preventive veterinary care. These visits allow us to monitor your pet’s health over time, detect subtle changes early before they become serious problems, and provide proactive care to keep your companion feeling their best year after year.

My pet seems healthy. Why should I come in for an exam every year?

Pets can’t always tell us when something’s wrong. In fact, many conditions develop gradually and may not show obvious signs in the early stages. A yearly wellness exam gives your veterinarian a chance to catch these issues early—when they’re often easier (and more affordable) to treat.

What to expect:

  • A full nose-to-tail physical exam
  • Weight and body condition assessment/score (BCS)
  • Dental/Oral health evaluation
  • Heart and lungs check
  • Skin, coat, eyes, ears, and joint check
  • Review of diet, lifestyle, and behavior
  • Customized health recommendations

We will also discuss your pet’s vaccination schedule, parasite prevention plan, and any changes you’ve noticed at home. Wellness exams are a great chance to ask any questions you may have about your pet’s health.

Maintaining an Active Doctor-Patient Relationship

In addition to keeping your pet healthy, annual exams are required to maintain an active veterinary-client-patient relationship (VCPR). This relationship is not only essential for ongoing care but is legally required for prescribing and refilling most medications.

Certain health conditions or treatment plans may require more frequent visits or rechecks, which your veterinarian will discuss with you as needed. Learn more.
