Heart of the Matter: Randomized Clinical Trials and Evidence-Based Cardiovascular Medicine
Faiez Zannad
Professor of Therapeutics and Cardiology
University of Lorraine, FR
Professor Faiez Zannad, MD, PhD, Cardiologist, Clinical Pharmacologist, Emeritus Professor of therapeutics at Université de Lorraine (France) received the Eugene Braunwald scholarship at Harvard Medical School, the HFA Lifetime Achievement Award, and the 2022 Heart Failure society of Americas international Honorary Fellowship Award. Professor Zannad contributed to generating most of the evidence behind the foundational medical therapies in heart failure and its co-morbidities (sleep apnea, diabetes, hyperkalemia, kidney disease). He is a highly cited researcher (h-index: 151) who has significantly contributed to building evidence supporting modern drug therapy for heart failure, including mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists, beta-blockers, and SGLT2inhibitors. He recently led two important European Union granted research programs on omics biomarkers and fibrosis as a biological target.
Professor Zannad served as Chairman of the French Society of Hypertension and of the Working Group on Pharmacology and Drug Therapy of the European Society of Cardiology. He is also leading mechanic deciphering of cardiovascular disease using a biomarker approach (omics and fibrosis). As the founder and Chairman of the global CardioVascular Clinical Trialist (CVCT) think tank, he helps progressing the science of randomized clinical trials, and training future clinical trialists.
