Lucy Ubaka

Lucy Ubaka is from Nigeria and completed her bachelor’s degree in microbiology. Upon graduation, she volunteered for Family Health International 360, a non-profit organization with a worldwide response to HIV/AIDS especially in the area of prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV (PMTCT), malaria, and tuberculosis. During her master’s degree, she worked on the effects of environmental pollutants from farmlands on aquatic lives, particularly the use and discharge of organochlorine pesticides and its carcinogenic impact on fishes and humans. After completing a master’s degree, she continued working as a Field Public Health Assistant on Prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV/AIDS. Her interest in understanding the molecular pathogenesis of HIV and control of vertical transmission of HIV led to UGA in the Department of Infectious Diseases where she joined Dr. Ankita Garg lab.
