Research Interests
Dr. Palaniyappan’s research focuses on understanding how environmental exposures contribute to the development and progression of neurodegenerative and metabolic diseases. His laboratory investigates the effects of environmental contaminants, including per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and other emerging toxicants, on the central nervous system, with an emphasis on Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease.
The laboratory integrates molecular biology, neurochemistry, toxicology, and bioinformatics to identify mechanisms of disease susceptibility, discover early biomarkers, and develop innovative therapeutic and targeted drug delivery strategies.
