UGA Small Animal Medicine and Surgery Professor, Associate Professor
Dr. Bryan T. Torres grew up in Clemson, South Carolina and attended Clemson University for his undergraduate education (BS). He then attended the University of Georgia (UGA) and received his DVM in 2003 and after graduation he stayed at UGA and completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship. Following his internship, he worked as a small animal general practitioner for several years in the Atlanta area before returning to UGA to complete a research fellowship, a surgical residency, and a PhD (Physiology). Upon completion of this training, he joined the faculty at the University of Missouri as an Assistant then Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, the Small Animal Surgery Residency Program Director, and the Director of the Motion Analysis Laboratory.
During his time at the University of Missouri, he built and developed an advanced veterinary motion and gait analysis laboratory where he trained undergraduate, professional, and graduate students in veterinary gait analysis. Dr. Torres returned to UGA in 2023 to join the faculty at the College of Veterinary Medicine as an orthopedic surgeon within the Orthopedic Surgery Service and to oversee the UGA Motion Analysis Laboratory. He also oversees the UGA Small Animal Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Service and residency training program within the small animal teaching hospital. Dr. Torres is board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (DACVS) and the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (DACVSMR). He has research interests in gait analysis, musculoskeletal and joint biomechanics, sports medicine and rehabilitation, and osteoarthritis and pain management.
