Biography
Dr. Cervantes has been teaching the Coccidiosis section of POPH-6800 in the Master of Avian Medicine program since 1995. He is a past President of the American Association of Avian Pathologists (2016-2017), the Southern Poultry Science Society (2009-2010), and the American College of Poultry Veterinarians (2008-2009).
He has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award (2026), the Lasher Bottorff Award (2019), the Development Director Award (2014), and the Special Service Award (2010) by the AAAP. He was inducted into the AAAP Hall of Honor in 2019 and into the Latin American Poultry Association Hall of Fame in 2017. In 2023 he was awarded the Lamplighter Award by the U.S. Poultry and Egg Association, and in 2019 the Gold Turkey Award by Mexico’s ANECA.
In 2013 he received the Ben Harrington Award by NCSU-CVM and 2011 he was made Honorary Member of the University of Georgia Master of Avian Medicine Alumni Association.
