Undergraduate Student Researcher
Biography

My name is Lawson Brinkley and I am a third-year undergraduate student at UGA with hopes of applying to veterinary school this coming fall. I am studying biological sciences and animal biosciences with a career interest in small animal medicine. I currently work for an animal hospital in Athens, Georgia as a veterinary assistant. I am also active in my college community, participating in the pre-veterinary club, several intramural sports teams, as well as being a member of a fraternity on the UGA campus. With an interest in animal medicine, I was very intrigued with the SMART lab as a place where I could conduct translational research that can benefit both human and animal medicine. I work mainly as an assistant in the lab, ensuring that many of our projects proceed smoothly by growing and maintaining cells, assisting with specific projects in a multitude of ways, creating histology slides, as well as many other procedures. The critical thinking skills and research techniques are both extremely interesting and valuable for my future graduate program and career. I hope that by continuing my research I could help in discovering a cure to one of many devastating diseases as well as improving my own critical thinking skills, all while surrounding myself with many brilliant minds in the SMART lab.
