Neel Aziz

Dr. Neel Aziz is an Associate Professor of Avian Pathology in the Poultry Diagnostic and Research Center at the University of Georgia, a role he assumed in January 2026. He performs postmortem and histopathology examinations on poultry samples submitted to the center, providing diagnoses that help farmers and production facilities maintain healthy flocks. He also teaches and mentors graduate students in poultry disease research. His laboratory focuses on investigating infectious diseases affecting poultry. 

Over his 24-year career as a veterinarian, Dr. Aziz has served in a variety of clinical, research and public service roles. His experience includes serving as an active-duty U.S. Army Veterinary Corps officer; a federal veterinary medical officer and Head of the Diagnostic Pathology Unit in the Department of Wildlife Health Sciences at the Smithsonian National Zoological and Conservation Biology Institute; and a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) agricultural officer corps. 

Dr. Aziz brings extensive global veterinary experience, having worked with institutions including the Faculty of Veterinary Science at Mahidol University in Thailand, the City University of Hong Kong–Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine program in Hong Kong, and Covance Pharmaceutical R&D (Shanghai) Co. Ltd. in Shanghai, China. 

Dr. Aziz earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Rowan University and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Tuskegee University. He completed a veterinary anatomic pathology residency at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology and is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. 

A native of New York, Dr. Aziz enjoys bird watching, traveling and exploring major cities in his free time.
