Sharron Quisenberry

Dr. Sharron S. Quisenberry is emeritus professor of entomology at Iowa State University. Prior to joining the University of Georgia, she served in leadership roles as professor and vice president for research and economic development at Iowa State University. She was also dean of agriculture and life sciences at Virginia Tech, dean of agriculture at Montana State University, department head at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and division chair at the University of Idaho. Dr. Quisenberry began her career in entomology as an assistant professor at ISU and attained the ranks of associate and professor of entomology at Louisiana State University.

Dr. Quisenberry has received several honors over her career including Fellow and Honorary Member of the Entomological Society of America (ESA), Sigma XI, Phi Beta Kappa, and Truman State University’s Alumni of the Year and the University’s most prestigious President’s Leadership Award.

Dr. Quisenberry is recognized nationally and internationally for her research in host plant resistance to insects and insect-plant interactions. With a colleague, she co-authored a seminal book on conservation of germplasm for insect resistance that has been used globally. She has authored or co-authored more than 95 referred journal articles, books, and book chapters, with over 150 other technical publications, including a patent and three registered germplasm/cultivars. Dr. Quisenberry has presented over 140 lectures at international and national meetings. She has received funding for research as principal and co-principal investigator from NIH, NSF, USDA, Murdock Trust, Ford Foundation, and industry.

Dr. Quisenberry has served on the National Academy of Sciences’ Board on Agriculture and Natural Resources, the Board for International Food and Agriculture Development (G. W. Bush presidential appointment), and numerous other international, national, regional and state boards and committees, including ESA president.
