Clinical Assistant Professor
Dr. Staci Cannon is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Shelter Medicine at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, where she joined the faculty in 2022 as the college’s first faculty member dedicated to shelter medicine. Before returning to UGA, she served for seven years as medical director of Metro Animal Care and Control in Nashville, Tennessee, and previously worked in shelter organizations and private practice in Massachusetts.
A board-certified specialist in both veterinary preventive medicine and shelter medicine practice, Dr. Cannon is passionate about advancing the medical and emotional well-being of shelter animals through education, clinical service, and community partnerships. She has served in leadership roles with the Association of Shelter Veterinarians and contributed to the development of the second edition of the Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters (2022). She enjoys working with veterinary students, shelter professionals, and volunteers to improve animal welfare.
