The areas of research/academic focus for graduate students in CBS are exceptionally diverse, including translational medicine, vector-borne diseases, epidemiology and disease ecology, viral pathogenesis, neurodegenerative diseases, vaccine development, science education, bioinformatics, and more. Only a few specific courses are required by the program. The remaining courses needed to complete the program of study are selected by the student, their mentor, and the advisory committee to best align with the student’s research area, interests, and career goals.
Thesis Option:
The thesis-based MS program is ideal for students seeking to engage in advanced research in biomedical science. This track allows students to develop critical research skills while contributing to innovative projects that bridge the gap between animal and human health. Students will complete original research in collaboration with faculty mentors, preparing them for careers in academia, industry, or advanced doctoral studies.
Non-Thesis Option:
The non-thesis MS program is designed for students who wish to build a strong foundation in biomedical science without the research-intensive focus of a thesis. Students will complete a project under the guidance of their faculty mentor and take courses in their selected area of academic focus. This track is ideal for those looking to pursue careers in healthcare, industry, or policy, where a solid understanding of biomedical concepts and principles is key.
