“Juggling virology and bacteriology research, all in a day’s work”
Dr. Sonsiray Alvarez-Narvaez is a Research Microbiologist in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Services Southeast Research Laboratory. Dr. Alvarez mainly works with poultry viral pathogens and has 10 years of research experience working in a BSL-2 laboratory environment. Previously, Dr. Alvarez worked as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the University of Georgia’s Poultry Diagnostic & Research Center. They earned a PhD from The University of Edinburgh in microbiology and immunology, master’s degree from The University of Edinburgh in medical microbiology and bacteriology, and a master’s degree from The University of Georgia in bioinformatics.
