SCWDS has conducted wildlife research in the Southeastern United States for roughly six decades, and research forms an integral part of SCWDS activities. Historically, research at SCWDS has centered on game species; however, the breadth of wildlife research at SCWDS has expanded to include other wildlife taxa and areas throughout North America.
Novel research questions and projects are developed as wildlife, livestock, or human health disease concerns warrant. Results of SCWDS studies have extensive practical applications in wildlife management, domestic livestock and poultry production, and public health policy. Research accomplishments of SCWDS have been recognized nationally and internationally, and a list of publications resulting from SCWDS research is available here.
