Welcome to the Comparative Biomedical Sciences (CBS) Master’s Degree Program at the College of Veterinary Medicine. Our program offers an exceptional educational experience that prepares students for a diverse range of careers in biomedical research, healthcare, and related fields. Whether you’re interested in research, professional development, or pursuing further studies in the health sciences, CBS provides a robust foundation to help you achieve your goals.
MS Programs Overview
The CBS program also offers four distinct Master’s degree options, each tailored to meet the needs and aspirations of students with varying interests and career paths. Our research-focused and professional MS programs are designed to offer both depth and flexibility, allowing students to specialize in areas of great importance to both human and animal health.
Why Choose a CBS Master’s Program?
- One Health Focus: CBS programs are rooted in the One Health approach, emphasizing the interconnections between human, animal, and environmental health. Our research spans a variety of biomedical fields, aiming to address complex health issues through collaborative, interdisciplinary solutions.
- Interdisciplinary and Translational Research: Students in the research-focused MS programs engage in research that crosses traditional disciplinary boundaries. Our faculty and research projects bridge the gap between laboratory discoveries and real world applications, ensuring students contribute to practical solutions that impact both human and animal health.
- Preparation for Professional Health Sciences Careers: The CBS professional Master’s degree programs (Integrative Biomedical Physiology professional non-thesis MS and the online professional non-thesis MS) offer excellent preparation for students seeking entry into professional degree programs in health sciences, including medical, dental, veterinary, and public health schools. The curriculum and introductory research experiences provide a strong foundation for pursuing further education in a variety of health-focused fields.
Our research-focused MS programs (thesis and non-thesis) require prospective students to identify a faculty mentor prior to admission and have rolling admissions throughout the year. The professional MS programs (Integrative Biomedical Physiology non-thesis MS and Online non-thesis MS) evaluate applicants in late spring/early summer for admission during the Fall semester each year (identification of a faculty mentor is not required for the professional MS-NT programs). Applicants are evaluated based on their background, personal statements, academic credentials, and letters of recommendation. CBS does not require the GRE for admission to any program, although applicants are welcome to submit scores to supplement their application if they have taken the exam.
