Dr. Jonathan Bentley (DVM ’13) has been recognized with the 2026 Wellness in Practice Award, an honor that celebrates veterinary practices demonstrating exceptional commitment to wellbeing and the successful integration of those efforts into clinic culture.
A dedicated small-animal veterinarian, Bentley has built his career around clinical excellence, leadership, and advancing the veterinary profession. After earning his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2013, he began his professional journey with Sugar Hill Animal Hospital—first as a student completing externships, and later as an associate veterinarian. Today, he serves as the practice’s medical director, where he prioritizes high-quality patient care while fostering a supportive, sustainable environment for his team.
Bentley’s leadership extends beyond the clinic. He has served in leadership roles with the Gwinnett County Veterinary Medical Association and as a past president of the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association. In his current role as the AVMA Delegate for Georgia, he represents veterinarians at the national level and helps shape policies impacting the future of the profession.
With professional interests spanning practice management, veterinary dentistry, and wellbeing, Bentley is especially passionate about mentorship. He is committed to supporting both veterinarians and registered veterinary technicians through education, collaboration, and hands-on guidance.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Bentley enjoys maintaining an active lifestyle, often starting his day with early-morning workouts. He and his wife, a nurse, enjoy spending time together hiking and kayaking.
Dr. Bentley will be formally recognized during the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine’s Annual Conference & Alumni Weekend, April 17–18, 2026.
