The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine is proud to announce that Dr. Justin Brown (DVM ’16) has been selected as the recipient of our 2026 Distinguished Young Alumni Award.
Dr. Brown is an Assistant Professor of Swine Production Medicine in the Department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine (VDPAM) at Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. He also serves as the Associate Director of Education and Teaching with the Swine Medicine Education Center (SMEC) at ISU.
He earned his BSA in Animal Science in 2012 and DVM from the University of Georgia in 2016. He joined the Iowa State faculty in 2019 after completing a post-doctoral research associate fellowship with SMEC. He completed his PhD in Population Science in Animal Health at Iowa State University in 2022.
At ISU, Dr. Brown teaches swine medicine across both the undergraduate and professional curricula, leading 10 courses and contributing instruction to an additional 24 courses. He serves as the lead veterinarian for the university’s swine farms and conducts collaborative, applied research in swine production medicine, disease ecology, and foreign animal disease preparedness and response.
This award recognizes alumni within 10 years of graduation who have demonstrated excellence in research, teaching, service, and business. Dr. Brown will be honored at our Annual Conference & Alumni Weekend, April 17–18, 2026.
